The event was held on September 16th, 2024, at New York Vintners, with the participation of Alessandro Pasqua, President of Pasqua USA, and Master of Wine Christy Canterbury, who guided attendees through Pasqua’s dual interpretation of Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, the iconic red wine from Veneto, in northeastern Italy.

On Monday, September 16th, 2024, the Veronese winery Pasqua Wines, celebrated for its century-long legacy of innovation and quality, hosted an exclusive masterclass featuring an in-depth exploration of Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG.

The event was guided by Alessandro Pasqua, President of Pasqua USA and third-generation member of the Pasqua winemaking family, alongside the esteemed Master of Wine Christy Canterbury. Held in the Art Studio within the Wine Cellar at New York Vintners, this setting highlighted the winery’s commitment to blending wine with art and design and fostering creativity through innovative partnerships.

Alessandro Pasqua, alongside Christy Canterbury MW, guided participants through a compelling exploration of two distinct expressions of Amarone that embody this dual approach: the traditional style of the Famiglia Pasqua line and the contemporary style of the Mai Dire Mai line.

In the Famiglia Pasqua wines, attendees experienced the classic style of Amarone, made using co-fermentation techniques and a blend of different plots in the Valpantena area. These wines offer an enveloping and balanced profile, with hints of spice and chocolate from the barrel.

On the other side, the Mai Dire Mai line embodies a more modern expression of Amarone. Made using co-fermentation techniques, but exclusively from grapes sourced from a single plot in the limestone-rich Montevegro vineyard, these wines are known for their austerity, freshness, and herbaceous notes, revealing the full potential of the vineyard’s unique terroir.

During the tasting, Alessandro and Christy presented the following wines:

Mai Dire Mai Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG
– Mai Dire Mai Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2015
– Mai Dire Mai Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2013
– Mai Dire Mai Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2012

Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG
– Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2019
– Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2018
– Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2017

The masterclass was a testament to Pasqua Wines’ unique blend of respect for tradition and commitment to continual innovation. It showcased how the winery has seamlessly integrated these elements from its inception to the present day, distinguishing itself not only for its century-long history but also for its pioneering investments in viticulture across lesser-known regions.

“The masterclass offered a rare opportunity to experience the two distinct yet complementary expressions of Amarone that Pasqua Wines is renowned for.” said Alessandro Pasqua, President of Pasqua USA. “Each wine embodies our family’s innovative spirit and the winery’s rich heritage, conveying the excellence of the Valpolicella wine region.”
This event is part of a prestigious fall season for Pasqua Wines in the United States, which began on September 5th, 2024, with the “Great Wines of Italy” event by renowned wine critic James Suckling in New York. The momentum continued on September 10th, 2024, with the “Sip of Italy” event hosted by Wine Enthusiast, also in New York. The winery’s presence in the U.S. will be further marked by its participation in the 2024 Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival Grand Tasting organized by Wine Spectator, taking place from December 12th to 15th, 2024, in Palm Beach.
